first day of school

When kindergarten ended for the summer, Meredith didn't want to leave school.

In fact, there were quite a few tears involved on her last day.

And even though she had a fun summer, she was thrilled to go back to school and start first grade.

The day came and she was up bright and early. Her bag was packed, complete with the essentials like High School Musical pencils,

and a my little pony for good luck.

And...it didn't take long before she was tired of taking pictures and of squinting.

I think she had a good day!

End of summer fun

We've begun a back to school ritual. Well, actually, we've begun an end of summer ritual. For the second year in a row we celebrated the end of summer break by playing at the library and in the fountain at the pedestrian mall in Iowa City. If you were a reader of this blog last year, I shared that Jesse was not a fan of the fountain. Or of that day in particular. But this year was different. Both Jesse and Meredith (and I) had a blast at the library and at the fountain. 

At the beginning, they were both pretty hesitant about getting wet.

But it didn't take long for them to warm up...or rather cool down at the fountain.

Can you see her face-full of water? I didn't realize it blasted her until I downloaded the pictures!

It was a great note to end the summer break on.
