Happy 7th Meredith!

Today is Meredith's 7th birthday. She's 7! I can hardly believe it.

As I look back at the following pictures, I'm struck at how 7 seems so young, and yet so old at the same time.

Ah, yes. I certainly remember the hours...and hours...and hours of labor that just wouldn't bring Meredith out into the world. So they did a c-section. Certainly wasn't the plan, but of course she was well worth the wait!

How could you possibly resist those beautiful blue eyes?

Yeah, we were (and still are) smitten.

She makes us laugh...every day!

Just melts my heart!

Poor girl, she still hasn't gotten to go to Disney World!

First day of preschool...I still think she looks too young!

Enter baby brother Jesse. She was smitten with him!

Despite the 4 years between them, they still have fun playing together all the time.

Of course I can't finish this post without including one of her favorite pictures.

Let's go fly a kite

Well, it's spring, and we are all LOVING the spring-like weather. Last week it was windy enough that we got to fly some kites in the evening.

Jesse had fun chasing the kites and their tails.

No matter how high they were!

Mike, Zach and Grace had a kite,

my dad had one of his kites, and Meredith

and Jesse

 had their kites.

All the kites were in the air together for maybe 5 minutes...

then...

1 got stuck in a power line (I know, isn't that the cardinal rule to avoid when flying a kite? I won't tell you whose it was, but I will say that my kids and I were staying WELL away from the power lines...)

And then Mike's dragon kite tried to eat our fish kite...

...and the the wind died. So the only kite that would fly was our fish kite (once we extracted it from the dragon...)

I have a feeling the fish and owl kites will be seeing a lot of air time this spring and summer...

Let's go bowling

On Saturday we had a bowling party for Jace and Meredith. They both wanted to go bowling for their birthday, and since their birthdays are relatively close together (Jace's is Feb. 15 and Mer's is Mar. 29) it worked well to make it a joint party.

It has been many years since I've been bowling.

Unless you count Wii bowling. Then it's been only a month or two!

I at least hit 100. Barely. Meredith was at first disappointed because it wasn't like she thought it would be. She didn't realize the bowling ball would be so heavy. But she still had fun, and even got a spare or two.

Jesse had fun too. For the most part.

(Yeah, he's not the most photogenic...unfortunately he gets that from me.)

Jace and Meredith were of course thrilled with the presents. Jesse was, well, not too happy that it wasn't his birthday and he didn't get any presents.

After bowling, most of us went out for pizza...where Meredith and Jace had fun playing with their cousins and playing with the fun stuff that they got.
